Where the Alps meet tradition — Welcome to the Schliersee Pentecost Festival
Imagine this: You're standing on the shore of a crystal-clear Alpine lake, a brass band is playing in the warm May breeze, the scent of roast chicken wafts over the festival grounds, and glasses clink together in the tent – surrounded by people in traditional dress, genuine laughter, and true Bavarian conviviality. This isn't a holiday brochure. This is the Schliersee Pentecost Festival – one of the most authentic and heartfelt folk festivals in the Bavarian Alpine foothills.
For locals and visitors alike, this Schliersee folk festival is a firm fixture in the Upper Bavarian events calendar – four days full of music, regional delicacies, Bavarian tradition, and an Alpine atmosphere that can only be experienced at Schliersee. Those who want to discover the real Bavaria, away from Munich's tourist hustle, will find it here.
What is the Schliersee Pentecost Festival – and why is it celebrated?
Pentecost is a Christian festival celebrated 50 days after Easter. In 2026, Pentecost Sunday falls on May 24, and Pentecost Monday on May 25 – and Pentecost Monday is a public holiday in Bavaria. Shops and banks remain closed; instead, festival tents, beer gardens, and mountain huts open their doors wide.
Throughout Bavaria and Austria, the Pentecost weekend has been a time of communal celebration for centuries – when villages set up their festivals, traditional dress is brought out, and the community comes together. In Schliersee, the Pentecost Festival has its own unique character: It is organized by the ice hockey division of TSV Schliersee – a sports club deeply rooted in the community, which has passionately maintained the festival and its traditions for decades.
No event marketing. No staging for cameras. A real village festival – and guests are warmly invited to be a part of it.
What awaits you? – Program & Highlights
The Schliersee Pentecost Festival 2026 will take place from Friday, May 22 to Monday, May 25 on the Seefestwiese directly on the shore of Lake Schliersee – four days, each with its own unique character:
Friday, May 22 – Opening Day (from 6:00 PM) The kick-off belongs to the tapping of the first beer barrel – a moment no visitor should miss. The Schliersee Brass Band plays for the opening: hearty, traditional, Bavarian as it should be.
Saturday, May 23 Bustle in the festival tent. Live music creates an atmosphere that makes the tent rock – with regional bands that captivate the audience from the first note to the last.
Sunday, May 24 – Pentecost Sunday The most traditional day of the entire festival. After the church service, locals and guests gather for the classic Frühschoppen (morning pint) – brass band music, lunch, family time. In the evening, the tent becomes a stage for Bavarian festival sounds until deep into the night.
Monday, May 25 – Pentecost Monday & Festival Finale Since Pentecost Monday is a public holiday in Bavaria, the last day is dedicated to a relaxed conclusion. A final morning pint, family atmosphere, brass band music, and bidding farewell to a long, unforgettable weekend. Festival ends in the evening.
Food & Drink – Regionality you can taste The menu is a declaration of love to Bavarian cuisine: grilled chicken, juicy roast pork, pork sausages, fresh pretzels, radishes, cheese, and roasted almonds. Vegetarians will love the popular dumpling duo with Parmesan and butter. Tegernseer Hell from the Duke's Brewery Tegernsee and wheat beer from the Hopf Wheat Beer Brewery from Miesbach are served. All regional. All fresh. Served on real porcelain with real cutlery – because quality knows no compromise even at a folk festival. The Hackler-Bar and the Weinlaube (wine arbor) complete the offerings.
Why you should come
Genuine Bavarian tradition, not a backdrop. This festival is organized by locals for locals – and visitors are invited to be a part of it. No show for cameras. Just genuine Alpine festival culture at its most authentic.
A breathtaking backdrop. The Seefestwiese is located directly on the shore of Lake Schliersee, with the Bavarian Alps as a living panorama. The combination of mountain air, lake reflections, and festival tent atmosphere is unique.
Traditional dress, music, community. Locals come in lederhosen and dirndl. Brass band music, food, Bavarian customs – everything reflects centuries of living tradition. For families, couples, solo travelers, photographers, and gourmets alike.
Public holiday with a special atmosphere. Since Pentecost Monday is a school and work holiday in Bavaria, the entire weekend brings a relaxed, festive energy that is rarely experienced in this form.
